Shepard’s darkly humorous drama alternates between two families, both in full meltdown, armed against each other and divided amongst themselves. At the play’s onset, Jake (Kato Buss) is convinced he has killed his wife, Beth (Mary Buss). Though Beth is not dead, she has experienced brain damage affecting her mental and physical faculties. The couple retreat to their separate families to repair and recover, revealing generations of dysfunction, guilt, and family secrets. Shepard’s A Lie Of The Mind explores the power a family has to both nurture and destroy. A Lie Of The Mind is recommended for mature audiences.
